How to Wash A Synthetic Short Hair Wig

To get our wig or hair extensions last as long as possible, we recommend that you wash it periodically. However, the frequency of washing will depend on the use we make of it. This article will show you how you can wash your synthetic short hair wigs to make them serve you for a longer time (courtesy of RL Moda online wig store)

Important tips before washing:

  • Brush the wig before washing
  • Use cold water
  • Do not rub the wig
  • Do not use a dryer to dry it

Step 1: Interior

Turn the wig inside out (put on the side of the fabric. Fill a basin with cold water and put a little liquid detergent. We recommend liquid laundry soap (no matter the brand). Submerged the wig in the water with the detergent and leave to soak 10/15 min, then rinse well with cold water.

Step 2: The Shampoo

Then go around the side of the hair and proceed to wash the hair of the wig with plenty of shampoo. This does not require any specific wigs; you can use any supermarket shampoo provided it is a shampoo moisturizer for colored or dry hair.

Spread the shampoo all over the hair of the wig without rubbing; always massaging the hair up and down. The gesture when massaging the shampoo with the hair is as if we were combing with our hands. We have to make sure that all the hair is soaped. Then, rinse and remove the remains of shampoo without rubbing and letting it be the water that removes the remains of shampoo.

Step 3: Conditioner

Apply Conditioner spray or cream always on the tips and never at the root to not leave any fat that may contain the product. Comb the prosthesis and leave it for a few minutes.

Step 4: Rinse

Let the cold water run in the same direction as the hair to prevent tangling. Squeeze and press the hair. Do not drain.

Step 5: Drying with Towel

Put a towel on the inside of the wig and roll it in another towel. This will allow you to dry it inside and out by squeezing the whole set.

Step 6: Full Drying

With the wig already washed and dry (towel), we recommend leaving it to air dry for 24 hours since in many cases, the fiber cannot withstand the heat of the dryer, and you can burn the fiber of the wig. Mechanical drying has to be done by a post-marketing professional.
